Dentures

For many of us, tooth loss is a natural part of getting older. Dentures are a wonderful way to restore some or all of a person’s teeth. Thankfully, dentures are not like they used to be. With modern advances in dental medicine, dentures are more comfortable, functional, and natural-looking than ever before. Here at Oral Implants & Reconstructive Dentistry, we can expertly install full or partial dentures to restore the function and appearance of your smile!

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are appliances we use to replace some or all of the teeth in a dental arch. They can restore a person’s ability to eat, chew, and speak normally. With advances in dental techniques and dental technology, dentures look and feel more natural than ever before. Because most dentures are removable, they are easy to clean and care for.

At Oral Implants & Reconstructive Dentistry, our team has decades of experience with restorative treatments like dentures. To begin, Dr. Heller or Dr. DiDonato will carefully examine your mouth and medical records to determine which tooth replacement option is right for you. With a variety of dentures to choose from, we have a treatment for everyone!

What Types of Dentures Do You Offer?

To ensure we have a treatment for every patient, we are happy to offer full dentures, partial dentures, and overdentures.

We use full dentures to replace all of a patient’s teeth in their upper or lower dental arch. We use this treatment when patients need a large-scale restoration. Most of these appliances sit on the surface of the gums. They are either held in place by a suction effect between the dentures and gums, or with special dental glue.

Partial dentures replace several teeth in a row. For this option, we will use wires and brackets to hold the dentures in place. This option is ideal for patients who need several, but not all of their teeth replaced. Partial dentures can support more artificial teeth than dental bridges.

If a patient only has a few teeth left, or if they have dental implants, we may use overdentures instead. Overdentures sit over the top of natural teeth or implants and use these structures for support. Although they are removable, overdentures are often sturdier and more natural-feeling than traditional dentures.

Am I a Candidate for Dentures?

To begin your treatment, one of our skilled doctors will conduct a consultation and thorough examination of your mouth. This may include digital X-rays to check the structure and strength of your jawbone. Dr. Heller or Dr. DiDonato will make a treatment recommendation based on this information.

If your mouth is strong enough for dental implants, we generally recommend this option. Implant-supported overdentures are more stable than others and can help promote healthy bone growth in your jaw. If you are unfit for implants, we will recommend traditional full or partial dentures. All of the dentures we offer at our practice are functional, long-lasting, and beautiful!
