Bonding

Bonding_picBonding is an excellent way to address minor cosmetic issues like chips, cracks, and gaps between teeth. For this treatment, we can use a tooth-colored resin to change the shape, size, and color of one or more teeth. Because bonding is so cost-efficient, it is one of our most popular cosmetic treatments! At Oral Implants & Reconstructive Dentistry, you can customize your teeth to enjoy a brighter, more beautiful smile!

What Can Bonding Fix?

Bonding can fix a variety of minor cosmetic issues and blemishes. Once Dr. Heller or Dr. DiDonato applies this material to your tooth, they can mold it into the desired shape. By doing this, your dentist can make your teeth look longer, wider, smoother, and more evenly-shaped. They will even adjust the color and shade of the resin to ensure it looks just like your natural teeth. If you prefer, they can use a lighter color material to brighten the appearance of your teeth.

We often use bonding to treat:

  • Irregularly-shaped teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
What is the Procedure?

To begin, Dr. Heller or Dr. DiDonato will prepare your tooth to receive the bonding material. To do this, they will slightly texture the surface of your enamel. This will help the material bond to your tooth and prevent it from falling out. Once your tooth is ready, they will apply the resin.

At first, the resin is soft and malleable like a putty. After adjusting the size and shape of the bonding, Dr. Heller or Dr. DiDonato will harden the resin with a curing light. To finish, they will trim and polish the final bond. This procedure is very quick and can be done in a single visit. By the time you leave our office, you will have a beautiful, flawless new look!

What Are the Differences Between Bonding and Veneers?

We use both bonding and veneers to fix blemishes and improve the appearance of our patients’ smiles. Veneers are most commonly made from porcelain or ceramic and require two visits to place. Although they are more expensive than bonding, veneers are very natural-looking and long-lasting. However, they also require more of the natural tooth structure to be removed before placement – a procedure some patients may not feel comfortable with.

Bonding is made of tooth-colored composite resin. It is durable, cost-efficient, and easy to apply. In as little as one hour, you can have a beautiful new look without breaking the bank. Bonding also requires less of the natural tooth structure to be altered, making it a more conservative cosmetic option.
